Visita a la Shanghai Biennale

La 7a Biennale tiene por tema "Translocalmotion", cuenta con unos 61 artistas de 21 nacionalidades y estara abierta hasta noviembre en el Museo de Arte de Shanghai. "Translocalmotion" examina el espacio dinamico urbano y a sus habitantes reflejando asuntos como las migraciones y las implicaciones sociales, economicas y culturales de la urbanizacion, la exposicion explora como los cambios urbanos afectan a nuestra vida.
Ir a un museo de arte en China se parece un poco a ir al Ikea o al Decathlon donde todo lo prueban, lo tocan, lo fotografian posando ellos delante, al lado, interactuando con la pieza, lo comentan. Estaba bastante lleno (he contado 5 extranjeros) y el precio (medio euro, entrar al MoMa de NYC cuesta 20$) es lo mas cercano que he visto a la idea de democratizar el arte. Gran presencia de arte Chino y me ha encantado comprobar que hay mucha vida mas alla de los posters con referencias comunistas, pero que la estetica y la logica es indiscutiblemente otra. Una visita final a la libreria ha reafirmado la sensacion de que es un mundo aparte, el 95% de los libros pese al titulo en ingles, sonar super interesantes y tener precios razonables, son en chino!

Tools to study chinese

There seems to be a lot of cool stuff to help out with chinese learning. Some of it is hard to find/install if you don't have the last version of the operative system, you have a Mac or you only want to go for freeware versions.
So I ended up wasting way more time that I should have going through this... so here are my recommendations, hoping to save you some time:

- OFFLINE DICTIONARIES: yale has a great site with a compendium of many options here. from the ones i have tried, wenlin has an awful demo version and I cannot open clavis, so i recommend dimsum. (although it takes some time to get used to his weird way of organizing menus) but apart from a quite good dictionary, it has a really cool thing where it filters any site you want to read and creates tags for the words you don't know. The downside is that it has no sound.
- ONLINE DICTIONARIES: great online dictionaries are nciku. and this. but if you are in china with a slow connection like mine, you will probably want to kill yourself by the tenth word you need to look up. The good thing is that they have sound so it's a great complement to dimsum. This zhongwen is another one but I prefer any of the other two.
- PORTALS: there are multiple portals with a lot of applications, but i didn't bother to look throughout. Mandarin tools is one.
- TEXTS: a great source for texts and audio is the chinese voices project here. although i have to say i have trouble opening the java apps. or the chinese texts sampler here.

And I think this is the best I found, enjoy.

Yue Minjun 岳敏君

Probablemente el rostro mas conocido del panorama artistico chino contemporaneo, Yue Minjun se rie de todo. Su obra se compone principalmente de autoretratos en el que aparece una o mil veces, partiendose de risa.

La risa es un momento cuando la mente deja de razonar, porque estamos confundidos ante ciertas cosas y nuestra mente no quiere pensar o no sabe como o simplemente quiere olvidar. Pecha Kucha night

I have never heard of this before, but there is one happening in Shanghai tonight.. more info here
"Pecha Kucha Night, was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.
But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.
Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a† demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 100 cities across the world."

Hoy me he enterado de que existen los hoteles de 7 estrellas. Me lo ha contado un ninyo coreano de 11 anyos que suele ir a hoteles de 6 y que la semana que viene se va a Tibet donde solo va hablar ingles porque si habla chino corre el peligro de que le tiren piedras a la cabeza, no lo has visto por la tele? Y aunque le encanta la sangre (todo lo que dibuja y hace son gente muerta llena de sangre por todas partes) prefiere que no sea la suya. Toda esa charla para evitar el problema real, que es que hoy nos teniamos que inventar un juego y era demasiado doloroso, inventar algo? jugar? se puede jugar a algo mas que a la Play station?

La maquina de escribir en chino

Pese a que ya no se ven y yo nunca he visto ninguna, siempre he tenido curiosidad en saber como seria una maquina de escribir china.
Y era algo asi, sin duda la complejidad de la escritura china queda ilustrada por esta maquina. La bandeja contiene más de 2.000 carateres y hay otras bandejas con otros miles de caracteres. El tipografo debe primero alinearlos en la bandeja, entonces presiona una tecla que hace que un brazo tome el caracter requerido y lo presione contra el papel. La maquina puede escribir vertical y horizontalmente, pero es un proceso muy lento, ya que los buenos tipografos consiguen una velocidad media de 20 caracteres por minuto (los mecanógrafos expertos pueden escribir aproximadamente 100 palabras por minuto con el teclado QWERTY).

En 1946 fue inventada y patentada esta maquina de escribir electro-mecanica por el escritor e inventor Lin Yutang que creo un prototipo para una maquina del tamanyo de las de oficina. Los tipos chinos se encontraban dentro de un tambor del tamanyo de una lata grande y habia una especie de "ojo magico" montado en el centro del teclado de unos 10 cm cuadrados. Cuando el tipografo tecleaba en varias teclas a la vez, una seleccion de caracteres chinos aparecian y se seleccionaba el adecuado a partir de una tecla de funcion. La maquina tenia una capacidad de 7.000 caracteres distintos y ademas se le podian anyadir hasta los 90.000 planteados al disenyarla. Sin embargo nunca se comercializo y como cuenta su hija, casi causo el endeudamiento de su padre varias veces.

Los topicos son un concepto bastante elastico. Es facil caer en ellos cuando se juega de visitante, pero resulta igual de divertido leer lo que escriben los que nos visitan, (Alf, para ti)
