Más camis

camisbebes.jpg

Me sonrió. Y me dijo, te puedo hacer una pregunta? Hmm. Sí, claro. Respondí. "Eres estudiante?" No, no.. I work. Uish.
Desde entonces he vuelto varias veces a dejar y recoger ropa.

No me concentro. Empiezo muchos y no acabo ninguno.

Drawing Restrain 9

drawingrest.jpg

The Matthew Barney & Bjork film is playing at the IFC. You can watch a preview here.
Super cool looking. And the music is wonderful, as anything by Bjork. But I need to do some reading to fully appreciate it. Maybe this helps. Or not. Maybe there is a beauty in watching without fully understanding it all.

"Its core idea is the relationship between self-imposed resistance and creativity, a theme it symbolically tracks through the construction and transformation of a vast sculpture of liquid vaseline, called "The Field", which is molded, poured, bisected and reformed on the deck of the ship over the course of the film.

Barriers hold form in place, and when they are removed, the film tracks the descent of form into states of sensual surrender and formal atrophy; this shift in the physical state of the sculpture is symbolically mirrored through the narrative of The Guests, two occidental visitors to the ship played in the film by Matthew Barney and Björk, who we first see taken on board, groomed, bathed and dressed in mammal fur costumes based upon traditional Shinto marriage costumes.

They take part in a tea ceremony in which, in the film's only moment of spoken dialogue, they are informed about the history of the vessel, and then, as an increasingly powerful lightning storm breaks out overhead, the tatami mat room they occupy floods with liquid vaseline, a fluid which we sense has emanated from The Field sculpture itself.

In a harrowing liebestod which is the climax and centerpiece of the film, the Guests, locked in an embrace and breathing through blowhole-like orifices on the back of their necks, take out flensing knives and cut away each other's feet and thighs. The remains of their lower body are revealed to contain traces of whale tails at an early stage of development, suggesting rebirth, physical transformation, and the possibility of new forms.

Having reached a state of maximum disintegration, the sculpture of The Field is then reorganized and the ship emerges from the storm, sailing through a field of icebergs towards the open southern ocean. In the last shot, two whales can be seen swimming behind the ship, headed for Antarctica."

This is just weird. But here it goes. If it's true that it hurts less when you know you're not the only one.. this can be good.

Old Drawings

olddrawings.jpg

I have been kind of fascinated lately with the old ink drawings from encyclopedias. Via design observer i got to this. I cannot really figure out how to navigate it or if there is a way to really see what they have on archive, but just clicking around you can find some interesting stuff.

Lies, lies, lies...

goodthings.gif

So I have been thinking about lies lately, (for the next i have something in the eye) and I have found it's really easy to get inspired. Hmm. I just had a conversation with Maria (she gave me the line too) about how fucked up the taxes situation is in this country. So we paid around 20.000$ in taxes last year and we get in exchange... nothing! just 30 days to leave the country if we lose our job and a have a nice day! with a big smile with probably the whitest teeth you have seen in your life. But no one complains, because we have to be grateful to know that there are scubba divers checking the Brooklyn Bridge daily for explosives, or to see every once in a while 20 something year olds with machine guns walking around the city. Hmmm. So thinking about that makes me want to hide under a rock or move to the mountains and plant and eat my own tomatoes.
But then again, you can't do that. So then I decide to move to Barcelona again. But wait, I just did that and didn't work either. So I don't know what to do, and I want THE answer. And then I realize since I live in NYC I have no patience. All gone. Gone. Long gone. Where did it go? No idea. But I get antsy if the subway takes more than 5 min or if my fast food is not really fast. I want my answer and I want it now. The worst. The end. I have lost it.

So.. what do you do in these cases? I guess you have a coffee with Claudio (miss you!!) or if he is 6000 km away, you breath deeply, and go back to the basics, to the minimum, to the wise ones, to the things that matter to you the most. My grandma would have say this. (She was the proverbs mega master) I don't know if it's true, but relaxes me a bit. Elaine says that maybe self-help is just common sense. I agree. That and the European patience (I love how Henry Miller said it here) of knowing that nothing really important is going to change. And if it does, it's because it wasn't that important. We've been best friends for 13 years now (with Elaine, not with Henry Miller). That alone, should prove it, no?

(I am getting deported after this post. Fuck it!)

Amelie

artichokeheart.jpg

I was having one of those crappy days yesterday but Amelie was playing on TV. One of my fav movies of all times, and extremely red (not sure why I didn't talk about Amelie here) a great feel-good shot. I loved this line (mon says it's already old... ) I don't care and it goes with my recent obsession with artichokes.
