Hotel Rwanda

Born into Brothels

(Este se lo dedico a Gloria. Molts petonets nena!!!)
Born into Brothels is a film that introduces you to a bigger project: kids with cameras. The movie is the story of 8 little kids and the pictures they took and how having a camera changed their lives.
"By teaching the art and skills of photography, Kids with Cameras empowers children growing up in difficult circumstances and allows them to appreciate the beauty and dignity of their own expression. We send exceptional photographers to communities around the world to lead the workshops, which emphasize artistic excellence and individualized attention, and which encourage a holistic approach to art and education. We present the kids' photos to the world through exhibits, books and film. Kids with Cameras works beyond photography to strengthen the children's general education as well as their communities, linking with other organizations to work most effectively. Armed with self-respect, discipline and creativity, Kids with Cameras joins our kids to a global community that values them as artists, individuals and citizens."

Susan Sontag (1933-2004)

"We live in a culture, in which intelligence is denied relevance altogether, in a search for radical innocence, or is defended as an instrument of authority and repression. In my view, the only intelligence worth defending is critical, dialectical, skeptical, desimplifying."

In the Realms of the Unreal

The idea is pretty cool. When Henry Darger dies, at 88, his neighbours find his huge production of drawings. He had written a 600 pages long illustrated novel picturing his inner world.
The movie, though...... is loooooooooooooong and boring.

Bill Murray

Asbury Shorts Festival
My favorite shorts, worth checking out were:
- " Zen & the art of landscaping" David Kartch. Really funny script set in suburbia.
- " Perpetual Motion" Kimberly Miner. An amazing science experience presented in animation.
- " Stalker Guilt Syndrome" Jonah Kaplan. Not only because it's my old neighbourhood and Smith St. but because it's pretty hillarious.
- " Fait D'Hiver" Dirk Belien. Simple and great.
- "The Bloody Olive" Vincent Bal. A couple's x-mas celebration is interrupted by an unexpected visit from an ominous acquaintance.

New Year Resolution
New Year, New City, New Life ....
"A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving.
A good artist lets his intuition
lead him wherever he wants.
A good scientist has freed himself of concepts
and keeps his mind opent to what is.
Giving birth and nourishing,
having without possessing,
acting with no expectations,
leading and not trying to control.
Can you coax your mind from its wandering
and keep to the original oneness?
Can you cleanse your inner vision
until you see nothing but the light?
Can you love people and lead them
without imposing your will?
Can you deal with the most vital matters
by letting events take their course?
Can you step back from your own mind
and thus understand all things?"
- Tao Te Ching.
