Politically incorrect

Jimmy has a pretty interesting entry on how politically incorrect we are in this country. Check it out here. I guess we needed him to come to start questioning the candy bars we grew up with.

Congratulations

Michael Moore won La Palme d'Or in the Cannes Festival. Although I haven't seen the movie yet, I admire Moore's career and congratulate him from here from trying to do what we all should try to do: making the world a better and more honest place, through our work.

5 Obstructions

I remember the time Alfredo told me that his favorite seminar out of the D&Ad Seminar Week some years ago, was one where a guy talked on how much he loved limitations. Lars von Trier seemed to prove that again in this movie.

5 obstructions is a documentary about a conversation between two friends: von Trier (one of my favorites) and Jørgen Leth about movies, art and creativity in general. The premise is pretty simple: von Trier challenges Leth to remake one of his movies "The Perfect Man" 5 times. But to make it every time, he has to follow a different set of "obstructions". The results are amazing and you leave the movie feeling like a wussy for complaining on how the client asks you all the time to make the logo bigger. Creativity is what makes you make art despite of all that, and seeing how Leth can make it despite all the perverse von Trier's limitation, feels inspiring in a naive and fresh kind of way.

Photosynthesis

Paintings made of grass, that´s the amazing work of Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey. "It´s all a process. Typically the process starts in the darkroom where the seeds are germinated in minimal light and warm temperatures. Then they expose plots of seedling grass to light projected through a custom-made negative, which makes the grass grow (or not grow) in contrasting shades-from dull yellow to dark green. After 2 weeks or so, there is a peak in the growing, where as if by divine intervention, whatever image the negative held is captured in full grassy splendor."

Check it out here.
