A bday in Bangkok

If bdays are representative on how that year is gonna turn out, this one is gonna be fun, unexpected and good.
I got to Bangkok on the first train at 6am. It was my second time here. I love going back to places. It feels a bit like being at home. I got to the same station where 2 years ago Elaine, Gloria, Gemma and me took a train to Chiang Mai and from there I went to stay at Kao San, the backpackers mecca.
And then I called Cee. (thanks Hoover, I finally got to meet her and she is great!). We met up in what I thought was the worst place to meet up with a stranger: Thanom Silom, the craziest street ever.... to find out soon that most of Bangkok is that way, actually. Then we met Visa a thai friend of Cee. She was really cool and she would tell me little things about Bangkok and growing up here, etc. Thai people are really friendly and fun. Quirky in a way. They try to make anything fun, even the most boring of the jobs. They taught me some thai and told me how just mispronouncing a tone I could say completely different things. From there we went to a crazy golden super luxurius kind of mall, Siam Parangon, with the most amazing food court ever. I had spent the past 4 days in an island eating rice and noodles, so that was simply paradise. Everything you could think of was there. Sweet and sour. I had cakes and things I had never tasted before. I am crazy for the textures here. So different.
And then we met another friend and went to a fancy place for dinner. "It's your bday no? So we have to celebrate!!" And we did. And I felt like I was in NYC a bit. Having a nice meal and some wine and nice company and a good conversation. And I had one of those little surreal moments, when in the restaurant I ran into a guy I met in Halong Bay, then met again in Sapa and yesterday met again, for the third time. I am starting to believe that it's true that you meet strangers three times in your life.
From the restaurant we went to a bar with some live jazz music. Awesome.
So I can say my bday was great. With three strangers in Bangkok. O maybe just with three new friends.
Today I spent my day in the crazy but amazing Chatuchak Market where I met an artist, Peach. that told me not to buy any of the shirts that were there. He was gonna make one special for me drawing my portrait. He was really cool and we talked for a bit and he showed me some pictures from his show in Hong Kong. And on the back of the shirt, he draw a huge heart with wings and smiled at me.
